Mitch Monson, the VP and Creative Director of Brand Design and Animation MOCEAN shared the beautiful branding and logo system work they did for the NBC Sports Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
Partnering with designer/illustrators Aya Kotake, Burke Miles, Stanley Ng and Jamie Givens, MOCEAN was challenged to design an identity that would capture the spirit and energy of Tokyo and inspire a sense of humanity, competition and movement for the Summer Games.
The unique challenge with these NBC Sports Olympic identities is to develop a deep custom and memorable look to the typography so that it can stand on its own when necessary. It was important to NBC Sports that, even if the NBC Peacock, the Olympic Rings and the Year were removed from the mark, American Audiences will know this is a NBC Sports’ signature broadcast of the Games.
