Jean-Paul Goude

Jean Paul Goude - Chanel Eau N5

You know who is Jean Paul Goude… I hope so. Okay I will show you some his works. Above: Campaign for Chanel No5.

Jean-Paul Goude is a French photographer, art director, and illustrator. As an in-demand figure in the fashion world, today he is best known for his collaborative work with Grace Jones and, more recently, Kim Kardashian’s 2014 nude spread in the magazine Paper.

Goude’s work is multi-faceted and is not marked by any one style, but rather adjusts his aesthetics for each brand or personality he works with. He often employs collage techniques and subtle elements of distortion, as seen in Grace Jones’ iconic Island Life album cover. “Artifice is artifice,” he once quipped. “If you are photographing a group and someone is in the back and you put them on a little platform, that artifice doesn’t show. It’s the same thing. Whether it’s done before the shot or after, who cares?”

Lacoste Christmas Campaign 2016 by Jean Paul Goude

I wrote about his work for Lacoste in previous post.

Born on December 8, 1940 in Paris, France, the artist was influenced by dance as he witnessed his mother dancing and teaching dance while Goude was growing up. He went on to attend the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs before working for Esquire magazine. He has created campaigns and illustrations for Perrier, Kodak, and Chanel, among other companies. Goude’s works are in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York. He lives and works in Paris, France.
